Phyllo Pastry Brie Bites with Blackberry Compote and Pecans
Have some berries to celebrate Halle Berry
I have this friend who married a very bad guy. Okay, so I have a lot of friends who married bad guys. But this dude is very bad. We're fairly positive that he targeted and then conned her solely because she made more money than him. The worst part is that their child is stuck with an equally bad court system, which favors joint custody even over what really best for the child.
So for this week, I'm in celebration for Halle Berry, who recently won a victory in child support court. My friend and I can live vicariously through her court win. She has joint physical custody, but she had to pay $16,000 per month to baby daddy #1. That was an even worse con job that my what my friend has to deal with.
Not all celebrities, of course, win custody. I'll never understand why they get married. Or not have air-tight prenups/custody pre-agreements. But they do, and we love to watch their real-life drama.
I think conning people to marry you so you live a comfy lifestyle after divorce ... it's a real thing. Just look at Kevin Federline. I mean seriously. He could have loved Britney ... idk. Maaaaaaybe. Despite this statement, I don't hate the child support system. I just think it's ridiculous how much people have to pay.
In solidarity for Halle (I so love Halle), I whipped up this quick little appeteaser. I love brie, too, btw. So anything with brie ... is Halle good. (You see what I did there?) And yes, I used berries for Berry. You can substitute any kind you'd like.
Anyway, here’s the recipe for you: Brie Bites with Blackberry Compote. (It’s been moved to my website.)

Happenings
I realized after I wrote this newsletter that the topic of a woman winning in child support court might not be the best subject for Father's Day. If it makes you feel any better, I did an article a while ago about celebrity moms who lost custody. I also wrote a little ditty about some DIY Father's Day gifts. Who loves ya.
I also finally got around to finishing the recap of Amazon Prime's Goliath, Season 2. It only took me like ... 2 years. I thought it was apropos since I'm talking about Halle Berry. (Monster's Ball, anyone?) Onto watching (again) and recapping Season 3!
Still reading Uniform Justice by KJ Sutherland. While I'm away (see below), I'm going to hit on that legal thriller stack pretty hard. I'm taking a pause on the legal entertainment news to write a legal thriller book review/recipe combo for the next month. Hit reply and let me know if you like it.
Next week, I'm going to Jacksonville, NC, to help take care of some cute AF doggies. Loads of people loved the Seaside Sanotorium newsletter that I did, so maybe there'll be some more urban exploration going on. In the meantime, here's my cute AF doggy:
